As human beings, we crave certainty. We want to feel a sense of control because then we can feel safe. Sometimes we think that controlling other people will give us that sense of safety. “If I could just get my husband to support me more, then my life would be so much easier!” or “If I could just get my child to stop being so anxious, then I wouldn’t worry so much about them and I’d feel better!” And you might be right. Your life might be easier if that were the case. I don’t know how to change the people in your life, but I do know how to teach you to feel the way you want to feel without controlling them.
